Dear Families and Community Partners,
I am thrilled to welcome the Northwell School of Health Sciences to our network of schools committed to career readiness, work-based learning, and college success. Opening in September 2025 in Woodside, Queens, this innovative high school—developed in partnership with Northwell Health—will provide students with direct pathways into one of the fastest-growing industries in New York. As the only unscreened healthcare-focused high school in Queens North, it will ensure equitable access to high-quality career and college preparation for all students, especially those facing systemic barriers.
Our district has a proven track record of supporting new schools by leveraging best practices from our many successful career themed schools, with strong industry and post-secondary partners across the city. Through collaboration with experienced leaders and industry partners, we provide strategic guidance to ensure strong programming, sustainable structures, and meaningful career pathways from day one. Additionally, we will provide comprehensive supports in program development, subject-specific curriculum and instruction, school safety, climate and wellness, special education and multilingual learner services, college and career pathway counseling, and leadership capacity building to ensure the success of the Northwell School of Health Sciences.
I extend my gratitude to incoming principal, Erika Hurtado for the tremendous work she is doing to ensure a successful launch in September. Later this Spring, I am excited to meet Northwell’s future students, the founding class of 2029, and their families who made it an excellent high school choice. The Northwell School of Health Sciences exemplifies the power of education-industry partnerships, and I look forward to the lasting impact it will have on our students, communities, and the future of healthcare in New York City.
